Dr. Asif Islam is a highly accomplished rheumatologist and internist with extensive clinical experience, academic leadership, and a commitment to excellence in patient care. He currently serves as Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Rheumatology at Ali Fatima Hospital and AUMDC, Lahore, where he plays a pivotal role in advancing clinical services, education, and research.
Dr. Islam holds dual Fellowships from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology, along with the Specialty Certificate Examination (SCE) in Rheumatology from the UK. He is also certified in medical education, having earned a Certificate in Medical Teaching (CMT) from King Edward Medical University, reflecting his dedication to academic growth and training future healthcare professionals.
With over a decade of hands-on experience, including key roles at Mayo Hospital and Evercare Hospital Lahore, Dr. Islam is highly regarded for managing complex autoimmune and systemic rheumatic conditions. He is skilled in musculoskeletal ultrasound and intra-articular procedures, and practices a thorough, evidence-based, and patient-centered approach.
An active academic and researcher, Dr. Islam has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed research articles, case reports, and review publications. He regularly mentors undergraduate and postgraduate trainees and remains engaged in continuing medical education. He has participated in numerous national and international rheumatology conferences, including those hosted by the Pakistan Society of Rheumatology (PSR), Asian Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR), the Saudi Society for Rheumatology, and the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR).
